Running In Tights All Year Round
Tights aren’t a required piece of running gear but they are a piece of gear that many runners and even professional athletes who are more than just runners, including many pro basketball stars like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, wear to increase performance. When it comes to running some people prefer to use them just for racing and others who like to use them for training as well as racing.
I’m sure you are wondering why running in tights is worthwhile or what the advantages of running in tights are if there are any?
Well it really comes down to two things, one being that the running tights fit snugly around the covered area, it isn’t loose or baggy. The tight fit helps keep muscles warm and hold the muscles tightly together. Others prefer them because unlike conventional pants or shorts they prevent against chafing.
“Well what about running in cold weather?” I’m sure you think since the material looks so thin that you can’t wear them during the winter. Well it just so happens you can use tights to run in cold weather. Thermal running tights are a great piece of kit for winter running and will keep you warm in the coldest of winds.
For competitive sports like basketball and for sprinters in track, compression running tights would be best suited for you. The combination of fit and material that compression tights have give the tights a compressive grip on your body which helps keep your body temperature at an optimal level enabling the user to maintain strength and endurance while exercising. This is why you see Kobe Bryant wearing tights underneath his basketball uniform, it keeps his muscles warm and ready.
When it comes to competition running tights bring other advantages that are directly related to how snug the tights fit around your body. The tight fit helps runners reduce drag created by baggier clothes that have cloth that can catch in the wind, which may not seem like much but it is proven that these baggier clothes can and will hinder a runner’s performance. This is why a large portion of the professional runners and sprinters wear lycra running tights.
So for any serious runners out there or anyone looking to increase performance in any sport I’d recommend getting a pair of tights. They will help you keep your body temperature at a level that is optimal for performance, they will keep your muscles ready and less susceptible to injury, and in my opinion you will be a lot more comfortable especially since you won’t have any chafing issues. So if you are serious about exercising and performing at a high level then I would have to recommend wearing tights. At least give them a chance, it can’t hurt anything.
